Hoi An
Here is where I met up with Chris again. It was December 30 when I arrived in this lovely old French colonial style town. I liked it instantly. It was tiny. The mix of European and Asian architecture was stunning. At night all the porches are lit by red Chinese style lanterns.
New Year's eve was spent at a bar with hundreds of backpackers downing vodka shots. I ended up dancing with three Australian moms on vacation with their boys. I think I also danced with various other people but I don't exactly remember them all....
Hoi An is the town everyone gets clothes made in and so, I too jumped on the bandwagon. I'm not entirely sure that I like all of them but it's too late for regrets now. Best of all, I got some custom made heels.
We spent six nights here but really, I don't remember doing much outside of walking the streets, sitting in cafes for hours on end and watching the sky go from grey to rainy to sorta sunny. ...oh, I did meet that family of ten Norwegians travelling. They were so happy to be talking to someone outside their family.
One day we took off to My Son, ruins of an old Cham dynasty. It was really annoying. We were herded like cattle through the site. Chris and I took off and did our own thing. They shuttled us from the parking lot to the sites in old US Marine jeeps from the war. There was a few headless sculptures around.
Hilda, this one's for you!
