Googoosh
AKA Iran's Madonna. She sings one of my favorite songs ever!
Googoosh survived the Cultural Revolution in 1979 and remained in Iran well into the nineties. She started her life as a child performer and actress and branched out into singing back in the 1960s.
My fondest childhood TV memory of Googoosh is her performing in a pink negligee and frilly pumps on national Iranian television! Unfortunately that video isn't on youtube.
